Dole, Nixon, Obama And Memorial Day

During World War II our leaders and soldiers did not consider failing as an option. Bob Dole served our country well as did Ronald Reagan.

The Dole's and Reagan's were men who thought first what was best for the country and then thought about how they could win an election. They were politicians who recognized that compromise was not a dirty word and they could not get everything they wanted.  They knew that their party was comprised of mere mortals and if someone was a Democrat they too were capable of good ideas.




If it was not for Watergate Nixon would be remembered as the President who got us out of Viet Nam and rekindled our relationship with China.

Compare these men to those in the Republican primary this past election; Gingrich, Romney, Paul, Cain, Bachmann, Santorum, Huntsman and Perry. No wonder we lost.

Ted Cruz and Rand Paul are talked about as candidates for 2016. If this is the type of candidate we have in 2016 we will lose again and we should. The Republican party has surrendered to the Tea Party.

Bob Dole was also right about Barack Obama. He does not realize communication is more than just a good speech. He still has not learned how to communicate including the art of listening. He blew it with health care by shutting the Republicans out of the discussion and has been paying a price ever since.

Further, Obama does not grasped the concept that for a president, failing is not an option. We are getting nowhere at resolving our economic problems including gaining better control of our debt. A major reason is the President has surrendered to complacency. He is our leader and he needs to lead.

Save Some Art or Save Detroit

  This is something I wrote back in 2014 while Detroit was struggling with a bankruptcy. I profess not to know the value of all the art held at the Detroit Institute of Art (DIA). Further, I do not know how much of the art is owned by the city of Detroit. I think we should find out and use it in the best way possible to save Detroit and its citizens. I  commend all the foundations and the state of Michigan who have stepped up with hundreds of millions of dollars in proposed contributions to save the DIA and the art work that it holds. Is the plan presented to the creditors concerning these donations and the leveraging of the art the best way to save Detroit and its citizens? Is saving the artwork more important than saving the city and its citizens?
