Do Muslims Have Reason To Be Upset With The West?

I find it very interesting that conservative talk show hosts who say that Obama wants to surrender some of our governance to the United Nations are the same people who claim we have done nothing to cause the Palestinians, and much of the Muslim world, to be so upset with us. They forget that the state of Israel was taken from Palestinian land without their approval.

The Balfour Declaration of 1917 formalized British policy preferring the establishment of a national home for the Jewish people. Following World War I, the League of Nations granted Great Britain the Mandate for Palestine, which included responsibility for securing "the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people"
In 1947, Tte newly created United Nations approved the Partition Plan for Palestine, which sought to divide the country into two states—one Arab and one Jewish. Jerusalem was to be designated an international city administered by the UN.

The Jewish community accepted the plan, but the Arab League and Arab Higher Committee rejected it. On December 1, 1947, the Arab Higher Committee proclaimed a three-day strike, and Arab bands began attacking Jewish targets. Jews were initially on the defensive as civil war broke out, but they gradually moved onto the offensive. The Palestinian Arab economy collapsed and 250,000 Palestinian-Arabs fled or were expelled.

On May 14, 1948, the day before the expiration of the British Mandate, the Jewish Agency proclaimed independence, naming the country Israel. The following day, the armies of four Arab countries—Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq—attacked Israel, launching the 1948 Arab–Israeli War.

These talk show hosts are now being macho when some Muslims are saying that if we do not allow the Mosque to be built in Manhattan or if the Quran is burnt in Florida, we could be subject to more attacks. The attitude on these talk shows is “If they attack us that will be an act of war. We have done nothing to cause their hate for us.”

I am not advocating the return of the land called Israel back to Palestine. This would make no more sense than returning our country back to the Native Americans. We should recognize that the Palestinians’ were victims and it is understandable that they begrudge the West.

Calm heads should be prevailing. Most rational beings acknowledge that the building of the Mosque is legal and the preacher in Florida has a right to burn the Quran. However, in both cases the central figures need to be sensitive to public opinion and the colossal negative results that may occur if they follow thru with their current intentions.

The building of the Mosque should be delayed and  the Muslim community should give comfort to the rest of the country by fully explaining their intentions with the Mosque. The Preacher in Florida did what Christ would do.; he decided against burning the Quran.
